We are learning a few details about the possible price of the Asus TaiChi tablet ultrabook hybrid device. The TaiChi was the most ambitious offering from Asus at Computex 2012. It has a screen on the lid which can display something different than the second screen. It’s as thin as a Zenbook ultrabook which is all the more impressive.

Digitimes has done an interesting story about the bill of materials for the TaiChi. It may be as high as $900 to build. As the story suggests, the result might be a selling price might be $1,300 to $1,500 if the costs to build the TaiChi remain as they are. With that said, it appears Asus are exploring options in the build materials to make the price more appealing. The CEO Jerry Shen says that the price will satisfy all consumers.

When is this asus taichi going to be released? Or did they not release the release date yet?

Hi thanks for posting. There hasn’t been any word on the TaiChi since they showed it off at Computex 2012. Some other tech sites were skeptical whether it was only a prototype and actually wouldn’t be released at all. Knowing Asus, I’m sure they will get it to market somehow. I’m looking forward to seeing how low they can get the cost down. I hope to be able to post something about the status soon. Thanks for visiting the site!

im debating about buying the asus zenbook ux31a, or waiting for the taichi to come out, i need a ultrabook badly for school though, any recent updates about the pricing and the release date?

Thanks for your comment. The only official information about release date was for a UK release before Christmas. I wouldn’t bank on that release date just yet. It was essentially some passing information at IFA 2012 and wasn’t a wide spread official date. Pricing wise, at last check I saw an article about Asus trying to shave some costs off it. I would imagine it’s going to be premium priced. Nice unit, but surely that comes at a cost. Stay tuned. I wish I had more solid info for you. Thanks for visiting the site!
