There has been a lot of speculation about the fate of the must talked about MeMO 370T. You know, it’s the 7-inch Tegra 3 tablet that Asus showed off at CES 2012 and was the talk of the show. It was that impressive $249 price tag which Asus proudly suggested at the time.
We don’t like to suggest something as fact when it hasn’t been made official. However in the case of Asus and the news website Digitimes, the stories are rarely wrong. This is why we are confident in what Digitimes is reporting today. They are confirming that the Google Nexus 7 tablet will be unveiled at Google I/O at the end of June. The price tag is expected to be $199 and will ship in July. Asus will be there on stage for that unveiling as they are part of the tablet for Google.
The big news in that story is that fact that Asus will be coming out with their own 7-inch tablet. Now we are being ultra presumptuous about it being the MeMO 370T because Digitimes doesn’t mention a model. However, think about the FCC submission from Asus and the label which clearly stated MeMO 370T. That’s obviously the 7-inch tablet being mentioned. Right? Most likely and we’re running with it.
The biggest news from the story is the price. The price of the Asus MeMO 370T according to this report is $159 to $179 USD. No, that’s not a typo. It may not be far fetched because at Computer 2012 Asus was really pushing cloud computing. Small onboard storage could really get the price down.
The MeMO 370T release date is going to be August. That date makes sense if you consider that July is most likely the month of the Asus Transformer Infinity TF700 and Padfone. August will be the 7-inch MeMO tablet and September/October will be the months for the Windows 8 Asus tablets.
So you excited about this? How do you think Asus got the price so low? Do you think Digitimes has the price all wrong on this?
