Asus Transformer TF300T Tablet Details

Update: The 4G LTE model, TF300TL, is available now including USA (32GB $481), and various European countries including Germany and Austria. Expect to see it available in more European countries. It's best to check your favorite retailers to see if it's available or not. We have full USA availability and shopping details here.

With the Transformer Infinity being launched, we've seen a modest price reduction for the TF300 tablet models. In the USA, we're seeing prices dip to as low as $349 for the 32GB model and the TF300 keyboard dock for as low as $119. In Canada we're seeing the 32GB model for as cheap as $349 and $129 for the keyboard dock.

USA - $349 - ASUS Transformer TF300 T-B1-BL 10.1-Inch 32 GB Tablet from Amazon.com

Regarding the colors? Asus has teased the blue, red and white colors. We can say that the USA has blue and white. If you're looking for red you may find one but it will be hard to find. We're not sure about Canada which also just has the white and blue models available. Lucky for European shoppers as you appear to have a greater availability of the red model TF300.

Regarding red colored TF300 tablets and the cheaper 16GB models, we don't know exactly when that will happen. In the past Asus hasn't released all color variants and is dependent on the region and the consumer demand. Red colored Transformer TF300 tablets can be found more readily available in European markets. At this date it does appear that 16GB models may simply not happen at all.

It's unclear whether some countries will get the tablet bundle which includes the Transformer keyboard dock. It appears those aren't available in the USA right now but in Canada it appears that they will be available as a bundle.

The 3G model of the TF300T is going to be listed as TF300TG and the 4G LTE model will be listed as TF300TL. Both the TF300TG and TF300TL are now available in the USA and some European countries including Germany. We've seen the TF300TL show up at the FCC in the United States and is now shipping and works with the AT&T carrier. This is great news as Asus generally has never released 3G or 4G tablets in North America.

Here are the models:

Asus Transformer TF300T-B1-BL (32GB model, price: $399 USD, color blue BL, color white WT, and color red RD)

Blue is the first color available with the white and red colors coming in June.

We are guessing (as of April 14) but these should be the other models:

Asus Transformer TF300T-A1-BL (16GB model, price: $379 USD, color blue BL, color white WT, and color red RD)

We are listing the Transformer TF300 Keyboard Dock from information that's been leaked (not official):

Asus Transformer TF300-DOCK-BL (price $149 USD, color blue BL, color white WT, and color red RD))

When TF300 pre orders start, we will list all available online retailers here. No official date has been set by Asus for pre orders.

red tf300 Release Date: April 22, 2012 - USA

Update: Red color is not widely available. The 4G LTE model is available in the USA and Europe. The 3G model is available in Europe.

Dimensions: 180.8 x 263 x 9.9mm vs 12.98mm thick for the Transformer TF101

Take note that the thickness of the TF300T is substantially thinner than the original TF101. As a comparison, the iPad 2 is 8.8mm thick and the new iPad is 9.4mm thick.

Weight: 635g vs 680g for the original TF101

The reduced weight is a great improvement. A lighter tablet is a more enjoyable tablet.

Overview: First off, throw out the old Asus Eee Pad Transformer name. This is now considered officially the Asus Transformer Pad 300 Series. This particular model is the Asus Transformer Pad TF300T officially. You may find some website referring to this tablet as the TF300 also. It's all the same thing. We have no idea if the 300 Series is permanent or not. Will this all change in the next generation of budget Transformer models? We give up on trying to figure these things out quite frankly.

With the naming out of the way, let's get down to specifics. The TF300T is a budget version of the Transformer TF101 series. The premium, most expensive models are the Transformer Pad Prime and Transformer Pad Infinity. So just remember that the Transformer 300 Series is the cheaper tablet and will be about $200 cheaper than what the Transformer Infinity will be.

The Transformer Pad TF300T is available in red, white or blue and in Wi-Fi, 3G and LTE versions. The color of the Transformer Pad 300 Series really makes it stand out from the crowd of Android tablets. It's a thicker Transformer tablet but in order to get price down, something had to give. If you've seen or handled the Transformer TF101, just know that the TF300T is much thinner than that! During the early phase of the launch, the blue color is available only. The red and white colors will hit store shelves in June.

Comparing the Tf300 to TF201 Prime and TF700 Infinity Transformer Pad Tablets:

With the current reviews of the TF300T starting to hit the internet, there is a lot of comparison between the TF300 and the TF201 Transformer Prime. For all intents and purposes the TF700 Infinity is the TF201 Prime for the sake of this comparison.

People should realize that the TF300T is the cheaper tablet and there is obviously going to be compromise. Looking at the Prime TF201 vs TF300, we can say that the Prime has the Super IPS Mode (improves outdoor reading with a brighter display) and the TF300 does not. There is no rear flash on the TF300 which the Prime TF201 does have. Of course the TF300 is made of plastic and the TF201 is made of aluminum which isn't a bad thing when you consider some of the GPS wireless signal issue because of aluminum design. The TF201 comes with Gorilla Glass, the TF301 does not. The TF301 get less battery life and has a slightly slower processor. The TF300 is slightly heavier and thicker than the TF201 Prime Transformer also.

See what we're saying? There are some compromises. The key benefits to the TF300 vs the TF201 or TF700 is the price point. The TF300 will provide you with better wifi signals which is certainly a big factor. The TF201 has the exact same screen resolution to the TF300. The new TF300T will feel slightly cheaper in your hands than the Transformer Prime simply because it's cheaper! If you have the money to spend, certainly you could wait for the Transformer TF700 Infinity but there is no firm release date details right now. The weight and thickness comparison is very modest is differences. You're saving quite a bit of money if you get the 16GB TF300T model and that's nothing to balk at.

Previous Transformer Pad TF300 News, Rumors and Speculation:

Update - The Asus Transformer TF300T has not been officially announced. There have been leaked documents and photos on the internet over the past couple of weeks, until now. Today Asus has released a new video teaser ahead of their appearance at the MWC 2012. It is this video here that has us believing the TF300 Transformer is real and it's coming very soon!

So far we've put together a post on our blog that breaks down all the current rumors and speculation about the TF300T tablet. We suggest you check it out here for now.

Unofficial thoughts: We don't have any insider information. We can strongly suggest that the Transformer TF300 is the next generation TF101 tablet from Asus. Made of plastic and slightly less premium to allow for a cheaper more mainstream Transformer tablet compared to the Prime model. We think it's going to have a better rear facing camera so expect a 8MP vs the 5MP camera of the TF101. The original Transformer TF101 had a 720P recording ability and expect the TF300 to have 1080P recording ability. These are modest improvements but they are improvements none the less. Of course the Eee Pad Transformer TF300 will ship with Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 which puts it equal to the TF101 which is just receiving the Ice Cream Sandwich update.
